Nava Jeevan

Dehydration caused by diarrhea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among children and the condition can be treated by oral rehydration therapy. Exposure to agents that cause diarrheal disease is frequently related to the use of contaminated water and unhygienic practice of food preparation and excreta disposal.

CRS launched Nava Jeevan (orange flavored), which is a WHO recommended ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) formula, for the prevention and treatment of dehydration due to diarrhea, in 1997 under the financial assistance of KfW.

Nava Jeevan is available in nearly all pharmacies and other non-pharmacy outlets (shops) in Nepal and is an over the counter (OTC) product. Nava Jeevan is manufactured by CTL Pharmaceuticals in Nepal and marketed by CRS. It is one of the most selling and preferred ORS found in the market at Rs.8 per sachet.

One should be careful while preparing and storing of ORS. Generally a made-up solution should be covered and not kept for more than 24 hours.
